Now more than ever, we are being asked to do more with less, including assisting our consumers to access ever shrinking generic resources.  Here are some useful sites that other providers have found helpful.

  • In Home Support Services, San Diego County - "IHSS provides homemaker and personal care assistance to persons receiving Supplemental Security Income or who have a low income and need aid in the home to remain independent."
  • Disability Benefits 101 (DB101) - Helps workers, job seekers, and service providers understand the connections between work and benefits: health coverage and benefit programs for workers and job seekers - descriptions of state, federal and private benefit programs, articles, guides to health and benefit programs, access to local resources, search engine, site map, tutorial, newsletter.
  • Disability Information on Government Resources - Federal website committed to helping people with disabilities learn and develop skills, find meaningful work, and realize the promises of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • DRI – Disability Research Institute - partnership between the Social Security Administration, Office of Policy, Disability Programs, and the College of Applied Life Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)—focuses on understanding the reality and impact of SSA income programs—SSI and SSDI—on applicants and recipients. Offers research, information, training and education, and data usage.
  • Government Benefits - Asks questions about your status and offers suggestions about whether you might qualify for government benefits and from which programs; a coalition of federal agencies maintains the site.
  • GPO Access - the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, has searchable databases to find government information, federal bulletin boards, Federal Register, Congressional Record, Congressional bills, United States Code, Economic Indicators, General Accounting Office Reports.
  • Social Security Disability Benefits: A Primer (PDF, 168 KB) - For most U.S. workers and their families, Social Security Disability Insurance provides protection against loss of earnings due to disability. This primer provides an overview of the SSDI program, including who is covered, what benefits they receive, how the program is administered, and how it is financed.
  • Social Security Administration - Has searchable information on benefits, how to apply, PASS, publications, ABA hotline numbers for children appealing SSI terminations.
  • Social Security - Frequently Asked Questions - Questions, answers, and blanks to choose topics, request information, find more links.
  • Social Security - Disability Publications and Information - Benefits for people with disabilities, with how-to, planners, publications, other languages, and more.
  • Social Security publications - Get publications by fax in English, Spanish and other languages.
