Statement on George Floyd

The California Community Living Network has always strongly advocated for inclusion, dignity, respect, choice, diversity, equality, and justice for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. These have been the principle values that guide us in all that we do every day.

The recent events in our country has compelled us to issue a statement and confirm that we stand with the peaceful protesters, demand action and continue to advocate on behalf of people of color experiencing injustice and inequality.

The inaction to address the systemic and institutional racism that plagues our country is unacceptable.

CCLN demands these issues be confronted immediately and that change occurs swiftly.

We urge our network and our entire community to join us in speaking out against the injustice to people of color.

#BlackLivesMatter

We are all equal – all of us – but this truth is not recognized, this equality is not recognized, and for this reason some people are, we can say, happier than others. But this is not a right! We all have the same rights. When we do not see this, society is unjust. It does not follow the rule of justice, and where there is no justice, there cannot be peace. I would like to repeat this with you: where there is no justice, there is no peace!” -- Audience with children of the Peace Factory, May 12, 2015

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, will make violent revolution inevitable.  – John F. Kennedy

In matters of truth and justice, there is no difference between large and small problems, for issues concerning the treatment of people are all the same. – Albert Einstein

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse, and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality. – Desmond Tutu

Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.  – George Orwell
